Their most influential architectural work was the Secession Building designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich as a venue for expositions of the group. They resigned from the Association of Austrian Artists in protest against its support for more traditional artistic styles. The Vienna Secession ( German: Wiener Secession also known as the Union of Austrian Artists, or Vereinigung Bildender Künstler Österreichs) is an art movement, closely related to Art Nouveau, that was formed in 1897 by a group of Austrian painters, graphic artists, sculptors and architects, including Josef Hoffman, Koloman Moser, Otto Wagner and Gustav Klimt. ![]() ![]() Gustav Klimt, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Josef Hoffmann, Otto Wagner Top: Secession Building in Vienna designed by Joseph Maria Olbrich (1897–1898) Bottom: Excerpts of the Beethoven Frieze by Gustav Klimt (1902) ![]()

By the end, exposing someone’s address was an act of emotional violence, and nobody picked up their new cell phone if they didn’t know who it was. In the beginning, almost every name and address was listed in a phone book, and everyone answered their landlines because you didn’t know who it was. In between, one presidential election was allegedly decided by Ross Perot while another was plausibly decided by Ralph Nader. It was long ago, but not as long as it seems: The Berlin Wall fell and the Twin Towers collapsed. ![]() From the bestselling author of But What if We’re Wrong, a wise and funny reckoning with the decade that gave us slacker/grunge irony about the sin of trying too hard, during the greatest shift in human consciousness of any decade in American history. ![]() ![]() ![]() Entitled The Blind Assassin, it is a science fiction story told by two unnamed lovers who meet in dingy backstreet rooms. But just as the reader expects to settle into Laura's story, Atwood introduces a novel-within-a-novel. It opens with these simple, resonant words: "Ten days after the war ended, my sister drove a car off the bridge." They are spoken by Iris, whose terse account of her sister Laura's death in 1945 is followed by an inquest report proclaiming the death accidental. Told in a style that magnificently captures the colloquialisms and clichés of the 1930s and 1940s, The Blind Assassin is a richly layered and uniquely rewarding experience. ![]() ![]() Margaret Atwood takes the art of storytelling to new heights in a dazzling novel that unfolds layer by astonishing layer and concludes in a brilliant and wonderfully satisfying twist. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A foundational graphic design book for students, Lupton and Phillips explore the formal elements of. They had a complicated history between them - he rejected her once and her pride didn't let her seek his attentions again. My heart broke for her and the secret she had to keep from everyone and at the same time I was in absolute awe of her strength and resilience (very much like Ian when he allowed himself to admit it). On the good side, Bianca reminded me of Nalini Singh's psy characters but more human. It's sort of enemies to lovers romance, again slow burn like the previous book in the series and while not as developed as I wanted it to be, I believed in the romance and their HEA. Book 1 made me super excited for Bianca's story and it indeed started great but just like with Ada's story, the romance plot lost track somewhere around the middle and the suspense/adventure took too much center stage for my liking. ![]() ![]() ![]() Tolkienįrom hot dogs and hamburgers to ice cream and pizza, this fascinating book is full of fun facts and stories of the origins of some of America's most popular foods.
